If your trying to find an online rap beat resource that can help you make beats you have a couple of options:

What's the Difference?

Pre-programmed beats and sampled loops are exactly that, rhythms created by others that are for sale online and are already mixed audio files. You will need a computer and Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software that will enable you to put the loops together on your computer with other pre-recorded drum/ instrumental samples to create a final mix of your song / beat.

Pros: Pre-programmed beats and sampled loop downloads usually have high audio quality as most are recorded in professional recording studios or programmed by professional recording engineers using the best high tech equipment.

You don't have to create the beat from scratch and you can listen to the loops before deciding on the ones you want to purchase

Cons: One of the drawbacks downloading pre-recorded beat patterns online is that you don't know how many people are using the same beats, samples and loops in their productions as anyone can pay to download them.

(If you have the budget you can hire professionals to produce unique beat sequences and instrumental loops just for your use but this could prove costly in the long run.)

The learning curve for piecing all the audio elements together using DAW is rather high and can initially be a hair pulling experience.

The costs can vary depending where you download your loops/ sample/ beats and if you are paying for each individually or if you have a paid subscription to a website that offers multiple downloads. The digital audio workstation software mentioned earlier can also be quite expensive. It is also necessary to insure your computer is capable of running the software. The latest music software programs demand more and more processing speed and memory from your computer to function properly.

Sequencing / Beat Making Programs.

If you are a musical artist and you are interested in creating your own beats then you will need a computer and a beat making program.

Beat making/ sequencing programs allow you to create your own beats and productions from scratch by programming drum machines and other sampled instruments and sounds. You can also create new sounds with the synthesizers that are included in many of the software packages.

Pros: You are not limited by individual prerecorded samples and loops as you can create your own. This guarantees your sound will be more unique and fresh and sound like you, not like thousands of others who may have downloaded the same loop.

Cons: Cost is the biggest factor limiting the access to these programs for many beat producers who are just getting started in the business. The software packages start around $100.00 and the most popular sequencing program will cost you in the neighborhood of $350.00. Just as with the DAW software, it is necessary to insure your computer is capable of running the beat program.

Once again the learning curve is high. There are so many controls and options available on the average beat/ sequencing programs it can be frustrating to the new user trying to master the operation of the program well enough so he/ she can finally concentrate on creating beats.

Personally, I prefer to create my own beats rather than downloading pre-recorded loops and samples created by others.

If you want to use pre-programmed beats, sampled loops, you should check out as many websites offering these services as you can before deciding which one to use. Try to find online rap beat sites that offer a low monthly subscription so you can download as much as you need rather than paying for each loop individually, just as long as the subscription site has a lot of quality content. Don't forget you will need a DAW to arrange the downloaded audio loops.

The So Called Seder: A Hip Hop Haggadah $9.58 From avant-garde New York artist So Called comes a rather iconoclastic rendition of a Passover Seder dinner. The ceremonial songs sung during the night are represented and remixed. The style is somewhat reminiscent of Cut Chemist, with cuts of old, notably dated educational and cultural records intermixed with scratches and drum loops. What differentiates So Called from Cut Chemist though is less reliance on scratching, the obvious Jewish content of the samples, and a tendency for So Called to spend a fair amount of time letting guests freestyle over the top of the mix. The guests steal the show from time to time, with rising star and dancehall singer extraordinaire Matisyahu taking over on a piece related to the drinking of the third cup of wine, Wu-Tang's Killah Priest joining in on the Ten Plagues, and a handful of others from the hip-hop world as well as the cantorial traditions. There's some incredible newfangled fusion coming from the New York Jewish musical communities of late, and So Called is poised right near the top.
